A 15 y/o female explores her anger expressions in this piece titled " Creator of Fire" This piece followed the layout for the "Scribble Chase Technique," a collaborative art therapy intervention that involves the art of therapist and client together. It builds therapeutic rapport and cultivates safety... and the images that emerge are just plain magic.
Notice the flames that rise from the throat, and the fire on the tongue.
The anger and steadiness in this Cubist-Esque image, provide a visual for a youngster to see themselves and the way they feel inside of their bodies when a feeling arises, very validating (!) and also the beginning stages of cultivating the self-awareness necessary to change a behavioral pattern (like saying mean things when feeling angry.)
Notice how this youngster tempers the intensity of this masculine image of anger expression, with a feminine moon and stars out in the distance...perhaps a longing for more grace and gentleness in the way she expresses her anger, and the beginnings of the mind imagining a new way to BE.
